Video Recording Studios

Overview

Instructional Technology maintains and supports two video recording studios, also known as "self-capture booths," for recording computer-based presentations with high-quality audio, digital ink, and optional webcam video. These spaces have been used to create hundreds of short educational videos for the School of Medicine, Stanford Hospital and Clinics, The Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education, and for online courses and tutorials on sites like Stanford Online, Coursera, Khan Academy, and NovoEd.

Examples of Uses

The booths offer many options for creating educational media. We can accommodate a wide variety of local or web-based presentation tools like PowerPoint or Prezi, in addition to digital ink, a document camera, and video from any device that can be output to HDMI, such as an iPad.

Guests have also used the booths to create training tutorials on software and websites. If you have an idea, please contact us and we can help you get started.

Equipment

We use high quality microphones in rooms that are acoustically treated to provide a quiet, echo-free space for recording.

Each booth has a 24" Wacom Cintiq pressure-sensitive tablet monitor for inking, and one booth has a high-definition Wolfvision document camera for doing hands-on demonstrations. We also provide editing stations and training on other applications useful in the media production process.

Spaces

There are a total of two recording booths available for reservation, both of which are located in the LKSC building at the School of Medicine. A reservation is required to use the booths.

We also have an editing station available next to the second recording booth which allows instructors to edit their videos without occupying a full booth. The editing station does not require a reservation to use and is available on a first-come first-serve basis.
