Inpatient Care

The majority of inpatient hospital care occurs at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford (LPCH). The pediatric infectious disease service provides consults in the hospital's Neonative Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Maternity Ward, Well Baby Nursery, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and other patient units throughout the hospital.

In addition, pediatric infectious disease physicians see patients at several other Bay Area facilities including California Pacific Medical Center (San Francisco), John Muir Hospital (Walnut Creek), El Camino Hospital (Mountain View) and the Pediatric Group of Monterey.  

Outpatient Care

LPCH Outpatient Clinic (Stanford)

The LPCH Outpatient Infectious Diseases Clinic is located at 730 Welch Road at the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto. We have 3 half-day clinics each week and see outpatient referrals from both community and LPCH physicians. Our service provides expertise in the diagnosis and management of a number of infectious conditions, including osteomyelitis, fever of unknown origin, Valley Fever, tuberculosis, HIV, lymphadenopathy, pneumonia, sinusitis, congenital infections, and recurrent infections. We also provide follow up for some patients that require additional outpatient care for infectious diseases after discharge from their inpatient stay at LPCH or PEC. In addition, we follow some of our patients for chronic illnesses related to infectious diseases.

California Pacific Medical Center (San Francisco)

Located in the Laurel Heights Women and Children's campus of CPMC, our Stanford University board-certified pediatric infectious diseases practice sees children both in the hospital and in our outpatient clinic. Physicians provide prompt evaluations --- most new patient referrals are seen within a week or less. An easily accessible parking structure with valet services is located across the street. You and your child will meet directly with a pediatric infectious disease physician. Diagnostic and treatment plans will be discussed in a child-friendly environment that emphasizes communication between families and physicians. Our clinic sees many types of issues including, but not limited to, fevers, complex pneumonias, bone and joint infections, Staph infections/MRSA, surgery-related infections, Tuberculosis, Valley Fever, swollen lymph nodes and concern for immune problems.

John Muir Hospital (Walnut Creek)

At the John Muir Medical Center in central Walnut Creek, our Stanford University board-certified Pediatric Infectious Diseases physicians are available 24/7 for inpatient and outpatient consultations. Most new patient referrals to our clinic are seen within one week or less. You and your child will meet with a Pediatric Infectious Diseases physician for an in-depth evaluation of their infectious history, exposures, and risk factors. Diagnostic and treatment plans will be discussed in a child-friendly environment that emphasizes communication between families and care providers.

Many different types of problems are seen in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic, including (but not limited to): recurrent fevers, complex pneumonias, swollen lymph nodes, tuberculosis, Valley Fever, bone and joint infections, Staph infections/MRSA, post-surgical infections, and infections in children with suspected or known immune problems.

Packard-El Camino Hospital (Mountain View)

The Packard at El Camino (PEC) Unit is a 24 bed satellite unit of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford that is located at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California. PEC offers comprehensive care of a variety of general pediatric illnesses and Pediatric Infectious Disease clinicians from LPCH provide inpatient consultations here as needed. Consultations are also performed in the El Camino Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a level III NICU specializing in comprehensive neonatal care.

The Monterey pediatric infectious disease clinic outreach site offers outpatient consultations for a variety of infectious diseases and conditions including, but not limited to, latent TB infection, prolonged/recurrent fevers, skin infections/MRSA, and lymphadenopathy.
