Artist Statement

Michal Gavish is a San Francisco-based multimedia artist. Her art focuses on the crossings between subjects that relate to her personal history. Using research
Methods that she had learned as a PhD in Physical Chemistry, she is contemplating on these intersections and on their place between fact and fiction. Her fictional narrative is inspired by her work as a stage designer.

Gavish is a writer for SF Artnews, where she reviews contemporary art from the San Francisco Bay Area. She also lectures extensively to the community on subjects of Art and Science.

Gavish has worked in several artists’ residencies, in New York and Eastern Europe.
Her work was exhibited in 2014 in a large solo show at the Jewish Museum of Hungary in Budapest and in a group show at the Yerba Buena Center for Contemporary Art in San Francisco. In 2012 she was invited to create a video project at the Zero One Silicon Valley Biennale on the subject of Science and Technology. She had solo shows at Sandra Lee Gallery in San Francisco, Zadik Gallery in Tel Aviv and Ictus Gallery in San Francisco. In addition, she was invited to participate in many group shows at Meridian Gallery in San Francisco, at the Spinnerei in Leipzig, Bogota Colombia, Bet Hagefen in Haifa and the Sonoma Art Museum to name a few.

Her work was written about in several catalogs and publications such as New American Paintings, Jewish Museum of Hungary, Sandra Lee Gallery, Tachles Berlin, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Jewish Weekly, Time Out Tel Aviv, Channel 10 in Israeli TV and Tarbut City Magazine, nol.hu,Mazsihisz.hu, Fidelio.hu and more.
