Summer @ Stanford

In-person

For two weeks in August, returning and incoming Stanford OHS students gather at Stanford University for our optional residential summer program, connecting in person while engaging in a challenging and enriching academic program.

The Summer @ Stanford Experience

Community truly distinguishes the Stanford OHS experience. Summer @ Stanford (S@S) is an invaluable time for students and instructors to be together in person and develop a deeper sense of connection to the community at large. Students get to know each other as they work collaboratively in classes, participate in evening activities, and go on weekend field trips.

Students are immersed in university life while at S@S. They live in Stanford campus housing with their counselors, who are Stanford undergraduates or alumni.  Students often say that the residential experience of living in the campus dorms with other students is one of the most important components of Summer @ Stanford. During their time on campus, Stanford OHS students build bonds with each other and their instructors while also learning about and preparing for life in college.

Move Beyond Online

Summer @ Stanford offers students experiences that cannot be offered online during the school year. Hands-on, experiential learning is an important aspect of the S@S experience: We provide science laboratory courses, interdisciplinary studies, field trips, and group leadership activities that foster an exemplary learning environment.

For new Stanford OHS students, Summer @ Stanford is a great way to get oriented to the Stanford OHS community. Incoming students participate in orientation sessions that introduce them to the virtual classroom environment; the Stanford OHS program, curriculum, and policies; administrative and instructional staff, and to each other. With their prospective instructors, students discuss strategies for approaching coursework in various subjects. They meet with counselors to discuss their academic plans and courses of study.

Exploring the Bay Area

Summer @ Stanford allows students to take advantage of the rich resources the university has to offer.  Students may visit the Cantor Arts Center, explore a Stanford library, or hear from Stanford professors.  Students also have opportunities explore the San Francisco Bay Area. Field trips have included the San Jose Tech Museum, Exploratorium, Santa Cruz’s boardwalk, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
