Biography

As Program Manager, Brian manages programs to catalyze transformative environmental and sustainable development research around the world, including the Environmental Venture Projects (EVP). He serves as Woods staff lead to bring together diverse stakeholders and identify opportunities for synergies capable of leveraging faculty research.

Brian has spent more than a dozen years in project management, environmental grant making and international development, experience that includes new program development and partner outreach, research, evaluation and communication. Initiating health and education projects focused on rural China, Brian was Program Manager and the staff co-founder for the Rural Education Action Project at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford, where he worked extensively with faculty, researchers and students. He recently served as Program Evaluator for the School of Medicine's Biodesign Innovation Program. In his prior experience, Brian managed environmental grantmaking programs for the Beldon Fund and served as Research Analyst at the Washington State Dept. of Ecology. Other project work includes organizing a village-based "clean" stove project in Guatemala to conserve women's resources, time and health; serving as a consultant for the World Bank’s Mexico community forestry initiative; and conducting due diligence for Oxfam Trust in India.

Brian received his Master of Science in Agricultural and Resource Economics from UC Davis and his Master of International Affairs from Columbia University. He is fluent in Spanish.
