2014 Stanford Bright Award

Art Sterritt received the Stanford Bright Award and delivered a lecture on environmental sustainability at Stanford on Oct. 2, 2014 during an event co-sponsored by the Stanford Woods Institute. Sterritt was recognized for the critical role he played in establishing and protecting the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia, the world's largest coastal temperate rainforest. Barton H. "Buzz" Thompson, Jr., Perry L. McCarty Director of the Stanford Woods Institute, chaired the award nomination committee.
The Bright Award at Stanford recognizes an individual who has made unheralded contributions to environmental sustainability. Issued by Stanford Law School, the award recognizes significant achievement in conservation across different regions of the world. The award was created by a gift to the Law School in 2007 from Raymond E. Bright Jr., JD '59, on behalf of his late wife, Marcelle, and himself. Mr. Bright died in 2011.
