Inside Higher Ed interviewed Catherine Tierney, associate university librarian for technical services, on her views of how to better inform faculty and students about avoiding unnecessary expenses purchasing rights for digital texts to which they already have free access at the Stanford Libraries. “The hurdles to knowing what we have are high,” Tierney said, and she provided data indicating that sixty percent of course materials submitted to the Copyright Clearance Center for licensing were concurrently held by the Libraries.
