CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:
Islamic Manuscript Association’s Advanced Codicology Workshop
September 15-19, 2014, Stanford University

Stanford’s Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies, Stanford University Libraries, Stanford Medical History Center, the Islamic Manuscript Association (TIMA), Department of Comparative Literature, and Stanford Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies invite applications for an advanced codicology course on September 15-19, 2014 at Stanford University. 

The workshop will be given by Professor Jan Just Witkam, Emeritus Professor of Codicology and Paleography of the Islamic World at the University of Leiden. It will include four hands-on sessions on Arabic, Persian, and Turkish medieval manuscripts in Stanford’s Special Collections and University Archives, and in Stanford School of Medicine’s Lane Medical Library.

Participants should have reading knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or Turkish. Space is limited and applications will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary committee.  Please submit your application by June 9, 2014 at https://www.stanford.edu/dept/islamic_studies/codicology14.fb. Participants will be notified by June 23, 2014.

The workshop fee is $810 for TIMA members, and $890 for non-TIMA members. Participants may also need to purchase a $40 course pack. There may be scholarships available for continuing Stanford students.
