BioMotion Research Laboratory

Design Observatory (DO)

Designing Education Lab (DEL)

Dynamic Design Lab (DDL)

    Vehicle dynamics, design of x-by-wire systems, driver assistance systems and control of homogeneous charge compression ignition engines. The primary lab space is located in the Mechanical Engineering Research Lab (MERL), Room 130.

Design Research Laboratory

Engine Research Lab

Heat Transfer and Turbulence Mechanics Lab (HTTM)

  • The HTTM houses seven atmospheric pressure wind tunnels and two water channels, of various configurations, for research on turbulant flow and heat transfer.

Heterogeneous Combustion Lab

High Temperature Gasdynamics Lab (HTGL)

  • The HTGL houses research on high temperature, high speed and reacting flows. The lab includes several shock tubes for study of both high-speed flows and reaction kinetics, a supersonic combustion wind tunnel, a large plasma torch, several high-vacuum chambers, a research furnace, several smaller combustion facilities and extensive laser-diagnostics capabilities.

Innovation Acceleration Lab

    The Innovation Acceleration Lab is part of the Center for Design Research . The lab aims to develop feedback methods and technology to accelerate the effectiveness of engineering product innovation teams. Researchers at the Innovation Acceleration Lab use video interaction analysis and visual representations to measure, analyze and give process feedback to engineering product innovation teams. This is located within CDR, Bldg 560.

The Loft

  • A unique facility that represents the culture of innovation at Stanford, the Loft is the workspace for Stanford Design Program students

The ME310 Design Team Development Loft

Microscale Thermal and Mechanical Characterization Lab (MTMC)

The Thermosciences Group and the Design Group share the Microscale Thermal and Mechanical Characterization laboratory (MTMC). MTMC is dedicated to the measurement of thermal and mechanical properties in thin-film systems, including microfabricated sensors and actuators and integrated circuits, and features a nanosecond scanning laser thermometry facility, a laser interferometer, a near-field optical microscope, and an atomic force microscope.
