Fire Safety is Everyone's Responsibility

Fires can and do occur in laboratories and offices; the single largest cause of fires in California are related to electrical issues with faulty wiring or equipment.

Fire prevention begins with understanding the elements of fire. Fire needs fuel, heat and oxygen; removing any one item will prevent and minimize the damage cause by the fire.

It is important to know how to prevent a fire from occuring and what to do in the event of a fire. Report non-conformities to your supervisor. Facility-related items are maintained by the Office of Facilities, Maintenance and Planning (OFPM):

  • Fire extinguisher service
  • Fire sprinkler maintenance and service
  • Ceiling tile replacement
