Faculty Pay Spreads
Sponsored projects require that salary be charged as it is earned, rather than as it is paid. Faculty who have elected to receive pay for a 9 month appointment over 10 or 12 months require special entries in Labor Distribution to charge associated sponsored projects as the salary is earned. Use the Excel template below to calculate the appropriate Labor Distribution entries.
Faculty Salary Caps
Sponsored projects may have limitations on the amount of salary that can be charged. For information on salary caps, see Salary Cap Administration (Research Policy Handbook 15.5). Special entries are required in Labor Distribution to allocate salary over the cap. Use the Excel templates below to calculate the appropriate Labor Distribution entries.
For Individual Awards:
- Full time, 12 month appointment
- Full time, academic year appointment
- Part time, 12 month appointment
- Part time, academic year appointment
For Multiple Awards:
- An individual who is paid as salary is earned (12-month or academic-year appointment, full- or part-time)
- An individual on an academic-year appointment paid over 12 months (full- or part-time)
