Who are the Peer Advisors?

The STS Peer Advisors work closely with the Undergraduate Advisor and serve as a resource for initial questions about major course planning, departmental policies, and the declaration process. The peer advisors have completed a special training that augments their knowledge of the STS curriculum and can offer valuable student insight on the major. All students interested in declaring must first meet with a peer advisor to review their curriculum proposal. Meetings are drop-in only (no appointments) and questions can be directed to sts-advisors@stanford.edu.

Office Hours are held in Building 200, Room 17.

Callie Farmakis

B.A. Information Technology, Media & Society

Available Hours

Tuesday: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

All the way from Chatham, New Jersey, Callie arrived at Stanford not knowing what she wanted to study but was comforted that most other freshman were in the same boat. She enrolled in a wide range of classes freshman year to figure out which major was the best fit. STS was the perfect match. The variety of courses allowed her to combine her interests in marketing, media, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the STS community was beyond supportive and always available for help. Callie has been able to apply the skills and concepts from STS courses, in addition to her love for TV and media, towards her summer internships at NBC Universal and Mindshare in NYC. Callie was ISC chair for her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and helped run Kappa’s philanthropy event, Snowchella. She was also a member of the women’s varsity lacrosse team. Callie hopes to work in the media and entertainment industry in the marketing sector.

Available Hours

Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Will came to Stanford from beautiful San Diego with many interests but no clear idea of what exactly he wanted to study or do with his life. Growing up as a "Navy brat," Will was used to finding his own footing in new environments and figuring out how to channel his interests. At Stanford, he began taking classes that interested him in many different subjects, and with the help of his Pre-Major Advisor and friends he was able to find a major that allowed him to combine those interests while still allowing him to explore other areas. Outside of STS, Will is very involved in his fraternity, Dance Marathon, the Stanford Marching Band, tour guides, and Stanford Improv. In looking to the future, Will wants to pursue a career in politics and is excited to begin looking into different opportunities!

“Whether you are unsure about what you want to study, want advice from someone who is involved in a lot of different areas on campus, or just want to chat with a Senior, come swing by my office hours!” - Will

Camila Lee

B.A. Innovation, Technology and Organizations

Available Hours

Monday: 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Always curious about the world, its cultures and its people, Camila found in STS a major that would foster her curiosity but also challenge her academically. Born and raised in Brazil, she graduated from a British High School with the International Baccalaureate Diploma, for which she particularly enjoyed the huge breadth and depth of knowledge the diploma offered. Knowing that she wanted to experience the same in college, STS was a match made in heaven whilst also giving her hard skills that can be applied in her professional career. At Stanford, she studied abroad in Paris and is part of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and Stanford Women in Business. Amongst her passions is art, travelling, food, sports, music festivals and any and all outdoor activities. Upon graduation, she plans on spending a few years in the US, working with International Business, Marketing and Management, before returning to Brazil.

“I’d love to hear about your interests and help you explore them in such a versatile major. Come share your ideas and hang out with me!” - Camila

Britt Savage

B.S. Innovation, Technology and Organizations

Available Hours

Wednesday: 3:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Britt grew up right outside of the nation’s capital in the small town of Leesburg, Virginia. When she arrived at Stanford, she immediately realized STS would be a great fit. With her interests in art, business, ethics and engineering, she knew she didn’t want to limit herself to a single department. After exploring different concentrations, Britt found a love for product design and organization theory. When she isn’t working on group projects or building in the PRL, she’s dedicating her time to the NAACP, Chi Omega Fraternity, or attending to her CM duties for Roth. Also a Spanish minor, she studied abroad in Madrid and worked in Santiago doing social entrepreneurship. Interested in branding, marketing and social impact in the future, she has interned the past two summers in corporate social responsibility with a SF non-profit organization and in strategy with Google. Britt loves wine, photography, mindfulness practices, and Netflix.

“Come by and chat if you having any questions about STS - I’m excited to help you figure out how to make the most of your time at Stanford!” – Britt
