Eligibility and Commitment

ELIGIBILITY

You must be:

  • A junior, senior, co-term or graduate Stanford student the academic year following Sophomore College.
  • In good academic standing.
  • SCAs (undergrad and grad) are required to live in residence with student participants.

Candidates must be in good standing at the University, and the following Offices may be consulted:

  • Office of Residential Education
  • Office of Accessible Education
  • Undergraduate Advising and Research
  • Office of Community Standards
  • Vaden Health Center/Counseling and Psychological Services

Note: Vaden will not share confidential health information with the program, but may identify a concern with an applicant's readiness to participate, to be further addressed directly with the applicant.

Sophomore College reserves the right to revoke admission at any point prior to the program should there be any changes to a student's qualifications, standing at the University, and readiness to participate in the program. Sophomore College will notify the student should there by any concerns, or if the student is not longer eligible to participate in the program.

Commitment

  • SCAs cannot work a full- or part-time job or travel outside of required training or class activities during the program; SCAs must focus exclusively on their role as class leaders during the program.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, including those occurring in spring quarter (Faculty/SCA Orientation Meeting, Title IX training, and SCA Spring Training); attend all training sessions occurring immediately in advance of the start Sophomore College.
  • SCAs cannot participate in both Honors College and Arts Intensive either as staff or as a participant.
  • Training for New Student Orientation (NSO) and Residence Staff positions conflicts with the Sophomore College dates, and so students must elect to be an SCA or choose to fill one of the other positions.
  • SCAs must make their own living arrangements after the move-out of program housing if they do not have fall housing residence.  If an SCA does not have fall housing because of going abroad it may be possible to make special arrangements.
