Networking Connectivity from Student Residences

Computers connected to a network in a Stanford University student residence can transfer data to/from any available Internet site. The bandwidth available for such data transfers depends on the distant location.

ANY INTERNET2 SITE: Data is transferred using Stanford's CalREN-2 connection. Depending on current network traffic, data transfers can occur at a rate up to 100 Mbps.

ANY PAIX PEER NETWORK SITE: Data is transferred using Stanford's Palo Alto Internet Exchange (PAIX) connection. Depending on current network traffic, data transfers can occur at a rate up to 100 Mbps.

ANY OTHER INTERNET SITE: Data is transferred using Stanford's standard connection to the Internet. Depending on current network traffic, data transfers can occur at a rate up to 10 Mbps.
