Staff and Faculty Awards

The Annual Pediatrics Awards Day honors our faculty and staff whose work and dedication have helped make Stanford the great institution that it is today. Without their contributions, the advances of our Department—across all areas—would not be possible.

Awards for Faculty

Early Career Clinical Excellence Award

Each year the Department will recognize one of its faculty for early career clinical excellence. This is defined as achievements within five years of the completion of training. Criteria used to determine clinical excellence are broad, and examples include, but are not limited to, clinical excellence, clinical leadership in quality, safety, PI program development, leadership in innovative clinical program development and implementation or development of new approaches to clinical care.


Mid/Senior Career Clinical Excellence Award

Each year the Department will recognize one of its faculty for mid-senior career clinical excellence. Clinical excellence at this stage of a faculty career requires demonstrating leadership in clinical improvements above and beyond the faculty member's current role and responsibilities.


Fuji Apple Award

Each year the Department will recognize a faculty member who Pediatric Fellows nominate as the best teacher and/or mentor.


Feedback Award

Each year the Department will recognize a faculty member who Pediatric Residents select as the best at providing verbal feedback.

Note: Nominations will be collected directly through the Chief Residents.


Golden Apple Award

Each year the Department will recognize a faculty member who Pediatric Residents select as the best teacher.

Faculty Mentor Award

Each year the Department will recognize an individual for his/her role in mentoring the careers of early career faculty.


Postdoc Mentor Award

Each year the Department will recognize an individual for his/her role in mentoring the careers of postdoctoral scholars.


Basic Science Research Award

Each year the Department will recognize one of its faculty in an area of basic research for scientific achievement in the past year. Typically, this achievement will be a peer-reviewed publication, but other achievements may be recognized if they can be demonstrated to be pertinent to advancing biomedical research.


Clinical Science Research Award

Each year the Department will recognize one of its faculty in an area of clinical research for scientific achievement in the past year. Typically, this achievement will be a peer-reviewed publication, but other achievements may be recognized if they can be demonstrated to be pertinent to advancing biomedical research.


Medical Education Scholarship Award

Each year the Department will recognize one of its faculty in an area of medical education scholarship for her/his scientific achievement in the past year. Typically, this achievement will be a peer-reviewed publication or novel intervention, but other achievements may be recognized if they can be demonstrated to be pertinent to advancing medical education. 

Awards for Staff

Collaboration Award

Each year the Department will recognize an outstanding staff member who contributed to team performance by providing encouragement and support, helped others overcome obstacles, and successfully accomplished goals; was an honest and dependable team player who contributed to group collaboration and consensual decision making and showed empathy and respect for others; and who built and maintained good working relationships. 


Donna Schurr Spirit Award

Each year the Department will recognize a staff member for his/her outstanding performance, consistent dedication, initiative, motivation, positive attitude, and exemplary customer service.


Innovation Award

Each year the Department will recognize a staff member who has generated novel and valuable ideas and used these ideas to develop new or improved processes, methods, systems, programs or services. The award recognizes creative ideas that have improved the department and have made Stanford Medicine a better place to work. 


Rising Star Award

Each year the Department will recognize an outstanding staff member who demonstrates a quality of performance that indicates s/he will continue to develop into an exemplary employee. The employee shows passion for their work while exemplifying professionalism and dedication to the mission of their department and the University in the short time that s/he has been a part of the department.
