Pre-Tax Payroll Deduction

P&TS, in conjunction with the University and the hospitals’ payroll departments, allows eligible employees to purchase parking permits, transit passes, Clipper Cash, and Commuter Checks with pre-tax dollars via payroll deduction.

Through the Pre-Tax Transit and Parking Program, commuting faculty and staff save money when they purchase these items for personal use. The exact amount each individual saves will vary depending on the employee’s tax bracket and the cost of the item purchased.

 

Most employees can use payroll deduction to pay for passes or commuter checks and receive pre-tax savings (SLAC employees, please consult your payroll or benefits office).

  • BART: $48 and $64 High Value ticket*

  • Muni: Adult “A” and “M” Fast Passes, Senior Passes, RTC/Disabled Passes*

* Available only on a Clipper regional fare card. Visit www.clippercard.com to learn more. The serial number from your Clipper card will be needed to complete your order. Senior/Disabled passes require a Senior or RTC Clipper card. Commuters who are Eco Pass-eligible must use a Stanford-issued Clipper card.

Commuter Checks are available in $20, $30, $35, and $45 denominations. 

Clipper Cash

Clipper is the all-in-one transit card for the Bay Area, and in limited locations you can use it to pay for parking. Click here for a current list of the systems that accept Clipper.

Your Clipper card can hold transit passes, cash value, parking value or any combination. Cash value works on all participating transit systems, and parking value works in select San Francisco garages. Passes and tickets are specific to each system.
