Global Experiences
With financial support from the Business School Fund, Global Seminars have grown into a hallmark GSB experience. For incoming first-year MBA students, the seminars provide a transformative introduction to academic life that significantly prepares and informs them for the two-year program ahead.
Faculty drive the academic content based on their research expertise coupled with in-depth exploration of region-specific knowledge and culture in locations around the world. Student leaders and faculty partner to design seminar themes that focus on complex global management issues and to develop a learning community with a positive, inclusive group culture.
New Electives
Each year, the Business School Fund helps underwrite development of new elective courses for second-year MBA students and Sloan Fellows. In the 2017-18 academic year, the GSB offered 19 new electives, including Innovating for Financial Inclusion, taught by Professor Kenneth J. Singleton. This MBA elective explores how lower-income households cope outside the traditional banking system and inclusive innovations that enhance financial wellness.
Student Support
As competition increases to attract high-potential leaders from around the world, gifts from Business School Fund donors are put to use immediately to make a Stanford GSB education accessible for promising MBA, MSx, and PhD students regardless of their financial circumstances.
Co-Curricular Activities
The Business School Fund provides support for over 70 co-curricular clubs, conferences, and events that help students explore industries, learn from alumni expertise, and celebrate the diverse communities that enrich the campus experience. Some of these clubs include:
Big Ideas Club |
The Stanford GSB Big Ideas Club disseminates, discusses, and debates ideas that can transform our world. These may be 5 years away or 50, they may be unproven or inevitable, but all are united in their potential to change lives, industries, and institutions. |
Energy Club |
The Energy Club seeks to become the center for energy-related interactions at Stanford GSB by bringing together students, faculty members, and guests to explore issues impacting the oil and gas, wind energy, solar energy, fuel cell, and power sectors, as well as energy security and the environment. |
Social Innovation Club |
The Social Innovation Club serves Stanford GSB students interested in exploring innovative ways to tackle the world’s most pressing social challenges and improving livelihoods for low-income populations domestically and internationally. The club believes that businesses can excel with more than one bottom line and that private-sector approaches can help nonprofit and governmental organizations catalyze their impact. |
