Paratransit Service

Working with other local transit operators, BART provides ADA paratransit service to individuals whose disability prevents them from accessing, boarding, or riding BART trains. ADA service is provided by lift vans and is by reservation only. ADA service is available after the rider is certified as eligible under ADA guidelines.

The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) contributes to East Bay Paratransit through Measure B Sales Tax funds. 1.49% of the net revenues from the Measure B Sales Tax are allocated to BART and help support ADA mandated paratransit in north and central Alameda County.  In November 2014, voters approved a new Measure BB, which increases the tax to 1% and also increases the percentage of paratransit dedicated funds that East Bay Paratransit receives.

Alameda CTC provided the initial funding for an innovative project that allowed BART to prepare an illustrated guide on how to use the BART system.  This project, which is called "Learn BART! A Picture Guide to Riding BART," is aimed towards seniors, people with disabilities, people with limited English, and others who find navigating the BART system challenging.  You can download the booklet here.
