FMLA Calculation Change

The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees with 12 work weeks of unpaid, job protected leave in a defined 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons. Effective January 1st, 2015, Stanford is moving to a “rolling” backwards calculation method (the “Rolling Backwards” Method”). Currently Stanford has a “Calendar Method,” which means that the 12-month period runs from January 1st to December 31st.

  • Note California Family Rights Act (CFRA) leaves will be calculated in the same manner as FMLA.
