Canary Center at Stanford Membership

Membership Criteria

I. Overview

The Canary Center at Stanford is a world-class facility dedicated to cancer early detection research programs. The mission of the center is to foster research leading to the development of blood tests and molecular imaging approaches to detect and localize early cancers. The center is the first in the world to integrate research on both in vivo and in vitro diagnostics to deliver these tests, by housing state-of-the-art core facilities and collaborative research programs in molecular imaging, proteomics, chemistry and bioinformatics. To that end, the leadership of the Canary Center at Stanford would like to identify all of those individuals within the broad Stanford community whose research and/or patient care activities are relevant to cancer early detection and encourage them to apply for membership.

II. Membership: Expectations and Benefits

Expectations General

  • Members conduct and promote cancer early detection research, particularly collaborative and/or inter, multi or transdisciplinary cancer early detection research.

Specific

  • Participation in program meetings, Canary Center-sponsored seminars and symposia, and retreats.
  • Submission of annual and special requests for research progress, other support, publications and biosketch.
  • Listing of Canary Center affiliation on curriculum vitae and biosketch.
  • Acknowledgement of membership and Center support (for pilot projects and from core facilities) on publications, abstracts, posters and presentations.

Benefits

  • Members will receive discounted services and/or priority service at Center-sponsored core facilities.
  • Members will also receive notification of all Canary Center activities and an invitation to the Canary Foundation Symposium.
  • Members may apply for pilot and developmental funding for collaborative research (if offered).

III. Canary Center Shared Facilities

The current Canary Center Shared Resource facilities are:

  • Proteomics
  • Flow Cytometry
  • Microscopy
  • Chemistry

IV. Criteria for membership

The following criteria will be used to evaluate membership applications:

  • Early cancer detection relevance of research activities
  • Publications
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Extramural support (basic and population science)

V. Types of Membership

Associate Member: Faculty and staff, including clinicians and health care professionals, who have an interest and involvement in early cancer detection -related disciplines, basic research, clinical research or research in any of the population sciences (epidemiology, cancer prevention, nutrition, health behavior, dissemination etc.). Publications are encouraged, but not required. Emeritus Member: Retiring members and/or distinguished senior faculty and researchers from Stanford University, CPIC or other organizations with an interest in early cancer detection.
