Stanford Libraries offer special tours at the beginning of Fall Quarter, many specifically designed for incoming students. Tours of these libraries, as well as of the subject-specific libraries not listed here, can also be arranged by appointment.

Green Library

New students

Green Library invites new students and their parents to tour the largest Stanford University library, explore its world class library collections, and find out how the library can support students' research needs. All Green Library tours will last a half-hour consisting of a physical tour of the building. Tours will begin at the Green Library East entrance (red fountain entrance) on the following days and times:

• Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 pm
• Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2 pm
• Friday, Sept. 18 at 1 pm

New graduate students

Come to Green Library for a librarian-led tour of the building. Each tour will last an hour. Tours will begin at the Green Library East entrance (red fountain entrance) on the following days and times:

• Monday, Sept. 14 at 3 pm
  
• Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3 pm

Lathrop Library

Come learn about the technology expertise and resources available including 24-hour computer spaces, the media studio, create:space, and The Tech Desk in Lathrop Library. Tours will begin in the first floor lobby of Lathrop, near the Tech Lounge/Desk. Each tour will last a half-hour and are offered at the following dates and times:

New students and parents

• Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2:30 pm
• Friday, Sept. 18 at 2:30 pm

Art & Architecture Library

New students and parents

Learn about the library's circulating and Locked Stacks collections in art, architecture, and design, as well as its growing video art holdings, its scanning and design stations, and its quiet places to study. Tours will be held:

• Monday, Sept. 14 at 2 pm
  
• Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 pm

New graduate students

Specialized tours for new graduate students in the Department of Art & Art History are scheduled as part of their departmental orientations. However, new graduate students from all departments are welcome to attend the tours on:

• Wednesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 17 at 1 pm.

Students should gather in the Art & Architecture Library, located on the 2nd floor of the McMurtry Art & Art History building

Library orientations are required for all declared undergraduate majors and minors in art history, studio art, and film and media studies; these orientations are scheduled on an individual basis throughout the year.

Branner Earth Sciences Library & Map Collections

Orientation sessions for incoming School of Earth Sciences students are arranged at the beginning of Fall Quarter. Orientations for other students and researchers are available for the Earth Sciences Library, Map Collections, and GIS Services, and can be arranged year-round.

Engineering Library (Terman)

New graduate students are invited to a demonstration of the amazing array of library resources from all of the science and engineering libraries at Stanford. Demos will be held in the Nvidia Auditorium on the Terrace Level of the Huang Center on:

• Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 11 am to noon
  

You'll learn about research databases, books, e-journals, and more. You can also visit the Engineering Library's Gadget Bar and try out tablets and e-readers.

The Engineering Library will also hold an Open House. Drop by to meet your librarians and join us for coffee, juice, and treats on:

Music Library and Archive of Recorded Sound

The Music Library and Archive of Recorded Sound will hold tours on

• Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 10-11 am and 11 am-noon

Each tour is limited to 25 participants; additional tours can be arranged.

Tours of Swain Library will begin at the Circulation Desk, and last about an hour. Advanced registration is required. (Max. 15 users per session. Register at http://bit.ly/SciEngWorkshops.) Tours will be held on:
