Sample letter from employer to the Social Security Administration

This letter must be printed on the hiring department's letterhead, if Stanford University is your employer, or the Company letterhead if you are in another type of on-campus employment (i.e. Bookstore, Jamba Juice, etc.), and must be signed by your immediate supervisor.

Stanford Shopping Center is NOT considered on-campus employment. Please verify with an International Student Advisor that your on-campus job meets the conditions of on-campus employment when your employer is not Stanford.

The letter must include the following information:

    1. identity of the student employee (first name, last name)

    2. job description

    3. anticipated or actual employment start date

    4. number of hours the student is expected to work

    5. Employer identification number (EIN - common for all Stanford University departments: 94-1156365N)

    6. employer contact information, including the telephone number and the name of the F-1 student's immediate supervisor

    7. original signature

    8. signatory's title

This letter concerns the application for a Social Security Card by the referred international student.
