National Interest Waiver

Stanford doesn’t sponsor National Interest Waiver Green Cards. Attorneys sometimes use this category for clients who meet the criteria of this program.

A successful candidate will work in a position that:

  • Requires an advanced degree
  • Has nationwide impact
  • Demonstrates applicant’s prospective positive impact on the national interest
  • Demonstrates applicant’s superiority to peers
  • Cannot be the subject of a labor certification as delays involved in the labor certification process could harm the national interest

An individual may self-petition without the sponsorship of Stanford as the employer. Employees and affiliates who wish to seek assistance from attorneys regarding these categories may do so. However Stanford and/or its departments, laboratories and centers, may not be listed as petitioners. Please be sure the attorney understands that s/he may not represent Stanford University in the undertaking. See the relevant policy by clicking here >>
