After You Submit Your Form I-765

Once the application has been received by USCIS, within two weeks you should receive a “Notice of Action” letter that serves only as a confirmation receipt of your application.

This “Notice of Action” letter contains the following:

  • Your receipt number (WAC number in the upper left hand corner) which you will need if you want to check the status of your case with USCIS.
  • “Received date” – the date USCIS physically received your application.
  • "Notice date" – the date USCIS issued the receipt.

NOTE: If you do not receive a “Notice of Action” letter, you may still be able to find out the status of your application by:

  • Contacting your bank to see if your check has been cashed.
    • If the check is cashed, you will find the WAC number (noted by the USCIS) on the cancelled check.
    • If your check has not been cashed, your application is most likely lost. In this situation, you should consider preparing a new application.  Please contact the I-Center.
  • Emailing to lockboxsupport@dhs.gov You may put in the subject line of your e-mail: "no notice of action"

You should receive your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) in the mail within 90 days.

If your case is pending more than 90 days, please follow these instructions .
