How to request an extension of an I-20/Ds-2019

Before you start the process please read this:

  • Please make sure you have discussed the extension with your Academic Advisor and Department and you are aware of the new end date and any departmental funding you may receive.
  • This request will ask you to identify your primary department for funding and extension approval purposes.  If you have more than one active program, you must select the department requiring the longer extension.
  • Your extension request must be reviewed and approved by the I-Center before the end date of your current I-20/DS-2019 or you risk being out of immigration status.  It is your responsibility to monitor the progress of your request so that the I-20/DS-2019 can be extended in a timely manner.
  • If your primary department is providing funding, the amount and type will be entered by the department.  NOTE:  If you are being funded by a department other than your current program, you should enter the department name and amount in “Other Funding Sources” and upload the requisite supporting documents.
  • If you are not being funded by your primary department, you will be asked to upload supporting documents as a part of process.

Starting the process:

5) Enter funding information:

  • If you are getting funding from your primary department (the same department that you chose for the Dept. Administrator), please select “Yes”.  Funding information will be entered by the department administrator.
  • If you are being funded by a department other than your primary department, you should enter the department name and amount in “Other Funding Sources” and upload the supporting documents.
  • If you have any personal/family/other funding source (i.e. company) as well as any funding other than your own department funding (i.e. undergrad financial aid), please enter the amount and description.  You will be asked to upload supporting documents.
