Asuman Tezcan assumes new role in Metadata Department

 The Metadata Department welcomes Asuman Tezcan as its new Metadata Librarian/Coordinator for Bulk Processing & Outsourcing. A newly created position, it is designed to provide some much needed attention to the cataloging of large collections acquired by SUL selectors. In this capacity Asuman will be working with selectors and staff throughout SUL, as well as external vendors of cataloging service, to organize, coordinate, and manage the processing of collections so that they can become available for use in a timely manner.

Frank Ferko is leaving Stanford Libraries to accept the position of Music Metadata Librarian at the University of California, Berkeley working in the Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library. Frank leaves a significant legacy of accomplishment at Stanford Libraries. Frank accepted the position of Sound Archives Librarian in August 2016. During the past two and a half years, Frank met with numerous classes to introduce them to the many special collections and recordings in the Archive and handled hundreds of reference questions from researchers all over the world.

Cathy Aster selected for HBCU-DLF Authenticity Project

Cathy Aster has been selected as a Conversation Partner for the IMLS-funded Authenticity Project. In a collaboration by the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Library Alliance  and the Digital Library Federation, the mentoring and professional development program provides opportunities for staff at HBCUs and predominantly white institutions (PWIs) to foster connections and build information exchanges using a project-based focus. The goal of the Authenticity Project is “to create a more diverse, inclusive, collaborative and cohesive next-generation digital library workforce, ready to work across types of institutions in building infrastructure of various kinds (social and technological) in service to a wide array of communities.”

Stanford Mendeley Institutional subscription will be cancelled on June 30th, 2019

Please read our blog post "Update for Stanford Mendeley Institutional users" for an update on the situation.

Our current Stanford Mendeley Institutional subscription expires on June 30th, 2019, and we have been advised by Elsevier against renewal.  We find ourselves in the unhappy position of having to announce that we will no longer offer Mendeley Institutional after June 30th.

Participating in the scholarly and professional debates in our areas of expertise shapes how we develop the collections,  and allows us to provide top notch research and outreach services to students and scholars at Stanford and in the larger academic realm. A recently-formed writing group, organized by Margarita Nafpaktitis, Eitan Kensky, and Kathleen Smith, offers collegial support.
