- Santa Clara is part of a much larger coalition with local, state and regional partners and have been working collaboratively to ensure that Super Bowl 50 is such a spectacular event, the NFL will return to Santa Clara for a Super Bowl in the next few years.
- The City is the lead public safety and infrastructure provider, such as building permits and inspection, including police, fire and medical response.
- The City is working collaboratively with the Host Committee on marketing and communication to businesses, residents and visitors on topics such as mass transit, temporary road closures and traffic impacts, and also to highlight places to eat, drink and play while in Santa Clara.
What is the biggest challenge the city faces in hosting this prestigious sports event?
- The ultimate goal for bringing the Super Bowl to Santa Clara is to highlight the entire region and celebrate all of the unique attributes that the Bay Area has to offer. Santa Clara wants to ensure that everyone coming to the area for Super Bowl has an unforgettably fantastic time.
- There are so many different elements, such as public safety, transportation, and hospitality components that are involved with hosting a Super Bowl. Meetings surrounding Super Bowl planning have occurred over the past two years so that Santa Clara will be fully prepared to ensure Super Bowl 50 is a fun, enjoyable and memorable event.

Have you spoken with other host cities for advice?
- Select staff members, including public safety, attended the prior two Super Bowls to learn tricks of the trade for hosting a Super Bowl. In addition, Santa Clara meets frequently with the Host Committee and has established admirable relationships with all key stakeholders.
Do you have an estimate of expected visitors to Santa Clara?
- While every Super Bowl is different, it’s expected that the region will see a similar influx, or more, of people visiting the area especially since this is the golden anniversary of the Super Bowl.
- Santa Clara is working collaboratively with the entire region to ensure that this is a positive event for the region. Historically, there has been positive economic benefit for hosting regions and we expect the same for Super Bowl 50.
How’s the level of cooperation or coordination among Santa Clara, the NFL, and the Host Committee?
- We are proud of the strong partnership that we have with the Host Committee and together, we are working to ensure that this is a positive event for the region.
- Super Bowl 50 has opened the door for all of us to work collaboratively to create opportunities to celebrate our region and to engage with our communities in a special, unique way.
- This year, the Host Committee developed a Super Community program for Bay Area towns and cities to participate in the celebration and generate community involvement in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl 50 and Santa Clara was proud to be the first official Super Community.
Has Santa Clara ever hosted an event of this magnitude?
- WrestleMania 31 came to Levi’s Stadium in March, 2015.
- Event generated $138 million in economic impact for the Santa Clara/San Jose region this past March. This marks the second largest economic impact in WrestleMania history and the fourth consecutive year that WrestleMania generated more than $100 million in economic impact for its host region.
- 78 percent of fans that attended WrestleMania were from outside the greater Santa Clara/San Jose region and stayed an average of 3.3 nights.
- $22 million was spent on hotels and accommodations within the Santa Clara/San Jose region.
- The economic impact derived from WrestleMania Week was equal to the creation of 1,218 full-time jobs for the area.
- $6.2 million was spent by visitors to the Santa Clara/San Jose region at area restaurants.
How will the city handle security? Traffic?
- Levi’s Stadium has been open for over a year now and after every event (NFL and Non-NFL), public safety and traffic engineering staff have been evaluating and adjusting plans as necessary.
- A team of public safety and traffic engineering staff attended the prior two Super Bowls to be able to learn from other host cities and have continued to reach out as the planning for Super Bowl 50 continues in Santa Clara.
- Santa Clara police have strong partnerships with other law enforcement entities, such as the 49ers security team and other local, state and regional partners, allowing for a strong coalition of expertise and resources to ensure an enjoyable time is had by all attending Super Bowl 50.
How was this Super Bowl deal better than what most other cities have made with the NFL?
- Silicon Valley has captured the interest of the world through decades of achievements in technology and innovations that have changed the way people throughout the world live, work, learn, and communicate.
- As the home to educational institutions and the international headquarters of companies with names recognized on every continent (i.e., Intel, NVIDIA, Citrix), our region’s world class reputation for brilliance, creativity and a competitive edge makes it an ideal venue for an event that celebrates athletic strength, strategy and spirit.
- As the newest NFL stadium, Levi’s® Stadium, has state-of-the-art features and distinctive architectural design that enhances the fan experience and action on the field, adding to the excitement of the event.
- Santa Clara enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year, and an average temperature of 62 degrees in February.
- Santa Clara has been the proud home to the San Francisco 49ers team headquarters for over 25 years and we are thrilled to have such a strong partnership with the team playing at Levi’s Stadium.
- The success of the bid was drawn on the visionary talent of the entire Bay Area and the tremendous regional support.
- Santa Clara and the Host Committee will continue to work closely and collaboratively leading up to Super Bowl 50. The Host Committee has agreed to reimburse Santa Clara for public safety expenses related to The Game – this is the first time that we have seen a partnership like this - and we expect to deliver a safe, fun and enjoyable experience for all who attend!
- Throughout the region – from Napa to Monterey - visitors will be staying in hotels and dining in restaurants, generating a surge of transient occupancy tax and sales tax. In addition, many cities will be offering local events to create positive energy and excitement surrounding Super Bowl 50.
- 25% of all dollars raised by the Host Committee will support community initiatives and Bay Area nonprofits through 50Fund, the Host Committee’s legacy initiative.
- Increased tourism and exposure, which not only helps economically but could also bring new business partners, residents and returning tourists who could fall in love with this area, just as we all have.
- Superbowl 50 has opened the door for all of us to work collaboratively to create opportunities to celebrate our region and to engage with our communities in a special, unique way.
- This year, the Host Committee developed a Super Community program for Bay Area towns and cities to participate in the celebration and generate community involvement in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl 50.
- There will be numerous opportunities for communities to celebrate the Super Bowl, such as:
- Plan local events for your community

- Coordinate events with surrounding communities and look for cross promotional opportunities with marketing & social media
- Encourage community members to volunteer through the Host Committee or at the local level for events that you may want to plan surrounding Super Bowl.
- If everything is well coordinated, cities stand to make wonderful memories for their communities, attract new visitors and potential businesses, and make money. And collectively we stand a much better chance of bringing the Super Bowl back.
- Each city working together to help cross promote all of the unique treasures that each city and town has to offer. This is an incredible region – one that needs to be celebrated – and Super Bowl 50 has provided an amazing platform to show the world just has special and amazing this region is.
