About NSO Volunteers & Student Staff Positions
New Student Orientation strives to acclimate each entering freshman and transfer class to life at Stanford by introducing them to the University's diverse educational opportunities and resources; acquainting them with other students and University staff; helping them feel at home in their residential community; and creating in them a sense of place in Stanford's history as contributing members. Student volunteers and staff members play a vital role in supporting new students and their families and we welcome your involvement in creating a memorable NSO 2016.

Orientation Coordinators
Orientation Coordinators (OCs) are the core student staff that support Approaching Stanford and New Student Orientation.
Opening Convocation Student Speaker
Apply to speak at the 126th Opening Convocation Ceremony during NSO. As the sole student speaker among a set of distinguished University officials, you will represent the student body in welcoming to Stanford the members of the Class of 2020, new transfer students, and their families. The Selection Committee is looking for a student speaker who can comfortably and confidently share their “Stanford story.” Applications due at 8:00 am, Monday, February 22, 2016.
Orientation Volunteers
Did you love your New Student Orientation experience? Then apply to be an Orientation Volunteer and join the NSO team in welcoming the Class of 2020 and transfers in their first days as new Stanford students! We need your help as OVs to make NSO 2016 as vibrant, energetic, and memorable as it was during your first days as new students on The Farm. Plus, you'll get early arrival housing! The OV Application opens in Spring Quarter.
Move-In Day Volunteers
Join us on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, for Move-In Day--the first day of NSO! Be a member of the welcome team at the residences and help move our students into their new homes. The Move-In Day Volunteer Application will open in the summer for interested students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Community Coordinators
Apply to be an NSO Community Coordinator (CC) and help your community plan events for NSO. Most CC applications are due Thursday, April 14.
Faces of Community Student Speakers and Performers
Faces of Community will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Speakers and performers will need to return to campus on Saturday, September 17. Early Arrival Housing and Dining will be provided to students with on-campus housing for the 2016-17 academic year.
“The Real World: Stanford” Student Performers/Tech Crew
The Real World: Stanford will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016. Cast and crew will need to return to campus on Friday, September 16. Early Arrival Housing and Dining will be provided to students with on-campus housing for the 2016-17 academic year. Auditions will be held in May. Students of all backgrounds are encouraged to audition. No previous acting experience is required. NSO Policy on Student Group Recruitment and Tabling
Orientation is a period of adjustment and initial exposure for new students at Stanford. Special considerations should be taken with regard to use of alcohol and recruitment for student organizations during this time. Student organizations are not allowed to host events or parties for new students during NSO. Student organizations are not permitted to recruit new members for their organization before the second day of New Student Orientation, Wednesday, September 21, 2016. While recruitment in White Plaza is allowed beginning Wednesday, September 21, no incoming undergraduate student should be offered organization membership or asked to represent a student organization until the conclusion of the New Student Orientation period on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 8:00 a.m.
