J1 regulations state that when you move to a different U.S. residence address during your J program ( that is, a different address from the original Arrival Confirmation address), the new address must be sent to SEVIS.
If your Stanford classification is
- Postdoc
- Knight Fellow
- Visiting Student Researcher
Please enter all U.S. residence address updates into the 'SEVIS (US) address' field in Axess so that they can be sent to SEVIS.
Full instructions for updating your 'SEVIS (US) address' are here

You do not have access to Axess, so you should report your updated address by filling out this web form
All J Exchange Visitors and their dependents are required to have a travel validation signature from an I-Center advisor in the Travel Validation section of the DS-2019 in order to be permitted to re-enter the U.S. during the J program. The signature is valid for multiple entries for one year or until expiration of the DS-2019, whichever is earlier.
If you and/or your J dependents travel out of the U.S. and will re-enter in J status prior to the end of your program, bring your (and your dependents') DS-2019s to the upstairs front desk of Bechtel International Center to request the required Travel Validation signature before you travel.
J Scholar Orientation sessions are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 9.30 am at Bechtel International Center.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR POST-DOCS: The J Scholar Orientation session at Bechtel is not the same as the Postdoc Scholar Benefits session held by the Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs. The Postdoc Scholar Benefits session is MANDATORY for all new post-docs.
If you plan to apply for a Social Security number you should wait at least 16 days after you have submitted the Arrival & Insurance Confirmation Form. The SEVIS data visible to the SSN officials is updated only twice a month.
