Mandatory Confirmation of Arrival at Stanford

All J Exchange Visitors who have been issued DS-2019s by Stanford for the J1 Research Scholar or Short Term Scholar categories (the J category is noted in section #4 of the DS-2019) must follow these instructions so that their SEVIS records can be validated within the mandated period.

After you arrive in the U.S., you MUST complete and submit the J Arrival and Insurance Confirmation web form.

Do not complete and submit the form until AFTER you arrive or you may have problems entering the U.S.

You must complete and submit the web form after you arrive and not later than the 15th day after the program start date on your DS-2019.

  • If you will not arrive by the 15th day, you must contact your department administrator immediately and request an amended DS-2019 to show a later program start date.
  • If the J program period noted on your DS-2019 is less than 15 days, you MUST submit the form after your arrival and prior to your departure and the program end date on the DS-2019.
  • The J regulations state that your SEVIS record must be validated within a specified period and validation of your SEVIS record cannot be done until after you have arrived and submitted the J Arrival and Insurance web form.
  • If you are applying for a change of status within the U.S. you must submit the web form not later than the 15th day after the program start date or not later than the 15th day after the effective date noted on the I-797 Approval Notice, WHICHEVER IS EARLIER.
  • If you are transferring from another J sponsor, you must submit the web form upon your arrival at Stanford. Your failure to submit the web form within the required period after your arrival will result in a violation of your visa status.

After you complete and submit the J Arrival and Insurance Form, you will be directed to this web page that includes additional information.
