Building policies

Computer use

Public computers (kiosks)

Use these to view our SearchWorks library catalog. Kiosks do not require a login, but have limited software available (typically a web browser, etc). Some kiosks include programs for special functions, however, such as scanning. Public kiosks are available on the first floor of Green Library (both wings) and in select locations throughout the building.

Stanford-only computers

These terminals require a Stanford login. If you have a SUNet ID you may use these computers. They have a robust software suite available and are located throughout the building.

Food and drink

Green Library requires patrons to observe the SUL Borrower Responsibilities, including the food and drink provisions under Library Conduct.

Pets/service animals

Green Library requires patrons to observe the SUL Borrower Responsibilities, including the animal provision under Library Conduct.

Photography

You may not take photos or videos in the library without permission from the University Librarian's office. Please contact Nancy Fuller for more details.

After hours access

Some locations in Green Library are managed by different library or campus departments. Green staff don’t have access to all locations in the building. In some cases you can’t gain entry after normal business hours. Please plan accordingly. Contact the Circulation Desk staff if you have any questions about a specific location.

Assistance for persons with limited mobility

Green Library is committed to assisting patrons with limited mobility with their research. See the Circulation Desk staff for help with finding and retrieving materials. Please see the Accessibility page for further information.

Lost and found

The Circulation Desk houses Green Library’s lost and found. All lost materials discovered in the building are taken there. Circulation staff make a reasonable attempt to contact the owner of the lost property.

Please check at the Circulation Desk if you are missing any items. Staff will check if the item was received. Be prepared to present a Stanford ID or government-issued photo ID to retrieve your items.

Most materials are held for one month from receipt. They are discarded afterwards. Valuables and electronics are held for 24 hours before being sent to the Stanford University Department for Public Safety (SUDPS.)

Lockers

The library has several hundred lockers in the East Wing. Most Stanford community members may sign out a locker. Visitors and certain Stanford affiliates are not eligible for lockers. See the Circulation Desk for details.

Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, during the entire academic year and over summer session. You must have current library privileges to request a locker.

All library items kept in lockers must be charged out to you. You cannot store non-circulating items in lockers (reference books, current periodicals, etc). No food and/or drinks are permitted in the lockers. Staff inspect lockers regularly for compliance with these rules. Noncompliance may result in revocation of your locker assignment.

Study spaces

In addition to several large study rooms, Green Library houses a number of group study rooms, which may be used on a first-come, first-served basis by the Stanford community. See Green Library group study rooms for more details.

Faculty, doctoral candidates, or graduate students may request dedicated studies and carrels. Eligibility varies. Please see Lockers and assigned study spaces for details.

Appropriate use of study spaces

Green Library's study spaces are intended for the quiet study and scholarship of Stanford community members and visitors. In addition to following the library conduct under SUL Borrower Responsibilities, please use study spaces only for their intended purpose.
