Housing

Residents live in a variety of communities in the Bay Area. Most live in the communities directly surrounding LPCH, including Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View, and Redwood City. (Rents tend to be less expensive in Redwood City and Mountain View than Menlo Park and Palo Alto .) Some residents commute from as far south as San Jose and as far north as San Francisco. Most residents find apartments or rental homes that meet their budget and personal criteria (a one-time $3000 moving stipend helps with this) through online housing listings such as Craigslist or the Stanford Housing website. Stanford affiliate housing is also available within walking distance of the hospital at Welch Road Apartments and Stanford West, and is available via lottery in spring each year.

Welch Road Apartments

The Welch Road Apartments are located at the intersection of Pasteur Drive and Welch Road within easy walking distance to both Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Apartments are subsidized and configured as studio, one, and two bedroom units, and are available to incoming housestaff via lottery in early May of each year.

Stanford West Apartments

The Stanford West Apartments are located on Sand Hill Road adjacent to the Medical Center within easy walking distance to both Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. The complex features one, two and three bedroom apartments. Assignment is by eligibility category and date of application.

Colonnade (Los Altos)

This complex located on El Camino Real next to Whole Foods Market consists of 167 units ranging in size from one to two bedrooms. For more information, contact the rental manager:
