 Councilmember David Whittum submitted his resignation letter to the City on Monday, April 4, 2016, effective the same day, citing work-life balance reasons.  Per Section 604 of the City Charter, during their April 19, 2016 Council meeting, the City Council declared Councilmember Seat Number 4 “Vacant” and called a Special Municipal Election to be held on August 16, 2016 for the purpose of filling the vacancy for the unexpired term.  The Report to Council regarding these two resolutions may be found at the following link on the City’s website:  https://sunnyvaleca.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=2690540&GUID=17643F53-A46B-468A-BF44-8EB392D19167 .
In the interim, the City Council is able to and will continue to operate with six councilmembers.
