Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) Handbooks. The California stormwater Best Management Practice Handbooks have provided excellent guidance to the stormwater community since their publication by the Stormwater Quality Task Force (SWQTF) in 1993. The SWQTF has initiated the Handbook Update Project to revise and update the Handbooks to reflect current practices, standards, and knowledge gained about the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs), and to make the Handbooks more accessible.
Stabilized Construction Entrance/Exit. A stabilized construction access is a temporary control measure defined by a point of entrance/exit to a construction site that is stabilized to reduce the tracking of mud and dirt onto public roads by construction vehicles. (Caltrans)
Hazardous Waste Management on the Construction Site. Proper storage and disposal of construction materials and hazardous wastes from the construction site prevents the discharge of pollutants to storm drains and watercourses. Managing hazardous wastes - to reduce potential risks to project personnel and the site - requires knowledge and diligence from both contractor and City inspection staff. (Caltrans)
BMP Maintenance. Once implemented, Best Management Practices (BMPs) require continued attention. Maintaining BMPs to ensure proper functioning for the duration of the project is a critical storm water pollution prevention requirement.
Removal and Cleanup of Temporary BMPs. Temporary storm water Best Management Practices (BMPs) are just that - temporary. After an install BMP, such as a silt fence or sandbag barrier, is no longer needed on the project, it must be removed by the Permittee. This bulletin reviews responsibilities for ensuring that temporary BMPS are properly removed from the site to meet water pollution control requirements. (Caltrans)
