Maintaining Your H-1B Visa Status

  1. Maintain a valid passport during your stay in the U.S.
  2. Do not remain in the U.S. past the expiration date of your last I-94 card..
  3. Notify the USCIS of any change of address within 10 days of moving.
  4. Your Stanford-sponsored H-1B allows you to work only at the location specified on your H-1B petition. Don't accept any other employment other than the employment approved under your most recent H-1B petition.

  6. If your employment will be extended, ask your department to do so at least three to six months in advance of the expiration of your current I-94.
  7. If there are any substantial changes to your job duties, hours, title, department or work location please have your department notify the I-Center immediately.
  8. Do not engage in clinical research or patient contact unless your H-1B petition was approved for such duties. If it wasn't approved for clinical duties, your department must initiate an amendment with the I-Center and you may not begin your clinical duties until the petition has been received by the USCIS.
