Apps
Box Apps connect your Box data with other applications and services. Two types of applications are available:
- Official Box Apps
- Third-party applications
Official Box Apps are developed and supported by Box.
Third-party applications are also available through the Box interface. These apps are not developed by Box and are not covered under the contract with the University.
Stanford University has chosen to make third-party applications that support SSL connections available to the campus community. However, their security and appropriateness have not been reviewed. Please use third-party applications at your discretion; University IT does not provide support for these applications.
Stanford Medicine has chosen a more limited path. Only apps that have been approved for use with Stanford Medicine Box are available.
To access the Box apps:
- Log in to your Stanford University or Stanford Medicine Box account.
- On the menu bar, click Apps.
- Use the navigation on the right side of the page to see the available apps.
Creating an external password
Some apps require an external password. This means that the app does not support single sign-on and requires an additional password when accessed. Do not use your SUNet ID password.
To create an external password:
- Log in to your Stanford University or Stanford Medicine Box account.
- In the menu bar, go to My Account > Account Settings.
- On the Account tab, in the Create External Password section, enter a new password in the New Password field and Confirm Password field. Make sure that the password meets the maximum strength requirement.
- Click Save
- Your external password is now set. You can use your @Stanford email address and this password to log into apps.
Installing apps
For instructions on adding an app, please the the Box Apps Overview and FAQ. System administrator-level access may be required to add some apps.
