Registration Open for Stanford Information Security Academy

University IT is offering the next session of the Stanford Information Security Academy (SISA) Aug. 17-20, with the mission of developing cybersecurity expertise among Stanford’s system administrators and web developers in appreciation of the critical role they play in protecting our systems and data.

SISA is a set of full-day classroom courses offered quarterly and free of charge. The August session is a second round of the introductory level courses, so you do not need to take the classes again if you already attended in April. For this session, we are offering the same four courses:

• Information Security I
• Linux Server Security I
• Windows Server Security I
• Web Application Security I

We ask system administrators and web developers to attend two classes annually, beginning with “Information Security I” and followed by one of the other three. Completion of these two courses will satisfy the annual training expectation described in the Minimum Security Standards while supporting the professional development of these key staff. Participants can attend more than two courses if so inclined and will have the option of progressing to increasingly advanced and varied training each year.

Registration for these courses is now open in STARS. Enrollment is limited. We are scheduling future sessions for November 2015 and March 2016.

SISA will extend beyond the core classes, with periodic suggested readings, communities of practice, brown bag sessions, continuing education recommendations, and additional training opportunities. Our hope is that participants will gain and maintain an information security mindset, employing cybersecurity best practices in their work and fully utilizing the many security resources provided by Stanford.
