The School of Medicine Career Center provides critical support for the exploration of career options, development of professional skill sets, and connections to opportunities. We house career and professional development resources via in-house and online libraries. Further, as career counselors, we provide insight into the career development and job search process one on one. Finally, we partner with alumni, faculty, and experts in myriad fields around discussion groups and curricular efforts. This curriculum, aimed at increasing awareness of and marketability for these various options, supplements an already strong scientific foundation with innovative and practical skill sets. Through all of our services and offerings, we empower our trainees in both defining their individual passions and short and long term goals as well as those impacting other organizations, cultures, and communities regardless of external expectations of career choice. Upcoming Events & Activities Full Calendar Celebrating Future Careers: Celebrate, Connect, Imagine Celebrating Future Careers: Celebrate, Connect, Imagine is a special, annual student/alumni event for our fourth year graduate students. Together with fellow alumni, faculty and staff, we will celebrate the knowledge and skills that students have developed over these past four years, provide them with a fun venue to reconnect with their peers and an opportunity to meet and talk with a variety of alumni. This year's keynote address will by by Joanna L. Mountain, PhD, the Senior Director of Research at 23andMe. She served on the faculties of the Anthropological Sciences and Genetics Departments at Stanford University. Dr. Mountain's professional and research interests include the patterns of genetic etiology across a broad range of human traits, the prehistory underlying human genetic diversity, and the nature of the relationship between genetic diversity and categories of race and ethnicity. Individual Development Plan Primer Course: Connecting the value of your PhD with the IDP May 29, 2015; 12-1:30pm; Alway 114 How might your experience now impact your future? This workshop will feature a panel with graduate students and postdocs reflecting on conversations about career and professional development with their mentors. Even for those not using a formal process in their departments yet, the Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a great opportunity to reflect on your training experience - past, present, and future. We will also explore the value of your PhD as it ties into the IDP process and briefly review Stanford IDP tools and resources. This is open to all graduate students and postdocs across campus but ideal for students or postdocs who have not yet completed an IDP. Register online.
