Voicemail Instructions for University and School of Medicine

To access your messages, call: 650-725-0000 (5-0000 from a Stanford phone).

Please note: these instructions also apply to the voicemail system for residents of Olmsted Terrace, Stanford West, and Welch Road Apartments.

Overview

The Stanford Voice Messaging system provides both phone and online portal interfaces so that you can check your voicemail by phone, on the web, or through your email account. You can request the fax to voicemail and Find-me/Follow-me features at no extra cost by submitting a HelpSU request or calling 5-HELP.

Getting started

When you start your employment at Stanford (or if you're already a Stanford employee getting a new phone number), your admin or department IT contact should provide a phone, phone number, voicemail password, and (optionally) a voicemail portal password. Each phone number is attached to a voicemail profile containing information such as passwords, greetings, forwarding preferences, and so on. If you have difficulty logging in to the voicemail system or portal using the information provided, call 5-HELP (5-4357) for assistance, as the phone number may still be using an old profile.

Whether you have a new number or an old number that has been reset, you will be prompted to initialize your mailbox the first time you log in. You will be asked to change your password and set up your greeting.

If you have questions about the details of your particular voicemail installation, consult your admin or Department IT Contact. Standard parameters for voice mailboxes (such as when calls are forwarded and the number of messages you can store), are described on the Mailbox Types page.

Key Tips

Key Tip

Extended absence greeting:

  • 4
  • 6
  • 1

Throughout the voice messaging instruction pages you'll find shortcuts for common tasks, labeled Key Tip. You can use these key sequences after you have logged in to the voicemail system to quickly reach a sub-menu without listening to each system prompt. For example, pressing 4 (Personal Options) 6 (Other Greetings) 1 (Extended Absence Greeting) in sequence takes you directly to the Extended Absence recording function.
