LGBTQ+ Faculty Networking Reception

Please join us with special guests Leslee Subak, MD, Chair of OB/GYN and James Lock, MD, PhD, Associate Chair and Professor of Psychiatry and co-Chair of Stanford Medicine's LGBTQ+ Diversity Cabinet Sub-Committee. Women Faculty Networking: Megan Mahoney, MD

Dr. Mahoney is a Clinical Professor of Medicine-Primary Care and Population Health and Chief of General Primary Care and Vice Chief of Staff for Stanford Health Care. Dr. Mahoney's research team is pioneering the shift from a health care system focused on medical care for individual patients toward an integrated health system focused on health and wellness of a population. The Route to Getting Grants (R2G2): Pitching Your Ideas

The Route to Getting Grants (R2G2) series will resume on Thursday, October 4, 2018 in Durand 450, 11:45-1pm with talks about "Pitching Your Ideas" from Professor Tom Clandinin (Neurobiology) and Associate Professor Elizabeth Sattely (Chemical Engineering). Lunch will be served. 


First Stanford Medicine LGBTQ+ Forum

Join us for Stanford Medicine's First LGBTQ+ Forum Celebrating Visibility. This forum will feature personal and professional stories from LGBTQ+ members of the Stanford Medicine community, as well as networking opportunities for allies to show support. Women Faculty Networking: Laurence Katzneslon, MD

Dr. Katznelson, Chair, Graduate Medical Education Committee; Associate Dean, Graduate Medical Education and Professor, Neurosurgery and of Medicine. Dr. Katznelson's focus as Associate Dean of Graduate Medical  Education is on the successful training of Stanford's residents as well as leading initiatives around wellness and the recruitment and retention of a diverse residency class. Memorable Presentations: Matt Abrahams

GSB Instructor, Matt Abrahams will lead us in this 90-minute workshop on the techniques and best practices for dealing with the fear of forgetting what presenters intend to say and having their audience forget what they heard so they can effectively deliver presentations audiences remember. November 12, 2018, 12:30-2:00 pm. Location LK320.


The Successful K Award Application: A Reviewers Perspective

Dr. Laure Aurelian will discuss the different award programs, and how to prepare an application that meets reviewers' expectations. She will present the most common misconceptions and provide an overview of the strategies to be used in order to write a competitive proposal. December 4 and 5, 2018, in LKSC, 8:30-10:30am.

Route to Getting Grants (R2G2) Series
The R2G2 is a seminar series specially designed for junior faculty. Sessions cover all aspects of grant writing, delivered through panel sessions, workshops and focused talks. R2G2 also provides networking opportunities, enabling cross faculty collaborations and multidisciplinary partnerships.

Stanford Science Penpals 
This program gives 6th-12th-grade students from low-income schools access to great science role models. if you are interested in this flexible, low time commitment science outreach opportunity, or, if you would like to be a guest blog post writer for our "My Science Story" series, here is more information about the programs and how to sign up.

 

Postdoctoral Scholar Recruitment
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to announce that PRISM 2019 applications open soon! Directed especially at prospective postdocs under-represented in the biosciences, PRISM provides travel expenses and additional activities to supplement the lab visit and interview. PRISM Dates: February 20-23, 2019. If you or your lab are interested in participating, please opt-in so that we can feature your research group on the PRISM website. McGann Women and Health Lecture Series
Join us Mondays, September 24th through December 3rd, 12:30-1:20pm. This annual lecture series consists of 10 weekly interactive presentations by a diverse group of Stanford faculty on important topics in Women's Health. This is the 41st rendition of the series, which is free and open to all Stanford students for credit and to our greater community.

Office of Science Outreach
The Office of Science Outreach (OSO) assists Stanford faculty to engage in science outreach targeted at our nation's youth, K-12 teachers, and the general public. These outreach projects and activities can help PIs fulfill NSF’s Broader Impacts criterion while also increasing scientific literacy in the U.S. and preparing the scientists and engineers of tomorrow. We sponsor programs that faculty can tap into, identify potential partners for collaboration, assist with proposal development, and maintain the OSO website to advertise what's on offer. The Stanford Medicine +OUTlist and ALLYlist
View and sign-up for Stanford Medicine's  +OUTlist  or ALLYlist, which serve to promote visibility for Stanford Medicine's LGBTQ+ community and foster advancement toward acceptance, belonging, visibility, and inclusivity.

The School of Medicine Clinical Department Chairs have appointed representatives to liaise between the Chairs, members of their specific department and the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity to assist with faculty concerns, ideas and the advancement of excellence at Stanford School of Medicine. Minority Faculty Networking Luncheons
OFDD hosts lunch with a small group of minority faculty monthly to discuss research and clinical interests, faculty development concerns, and career advice across lines and ranks while providing an opportunity for faculty to get to know each other across different departments and specialties within Stanford. Unconscious Bias in Medicine Online Course
OFDD developed this free CME activity which provides education on unconscious bias in the academic medicine workplace. Case studies will explore everyday examples of unconscious bias and provide bias busting strategies to enable learners to understand how to bring the content into their own unique environments. Take the course.

Dr. Irving Kessler, who has conducted epidemiology-based studies for many years is also available to assist faculty members in assuring that their proposals meet the standards of epidemiology in patient selection, study conduct, and outcome determination.
