We are bringing together members of the Stanford community who are interested in these topics to discuss how we can, as a research community, better support these principles and educate our colleagues on their benefits to furthering research. Connecting up individuals on Stanford's campus who hold these common interests is a great way to advance these goals.

This event is a follow-up to the Forum on the Future of Scientific Publishing held in July of 2013.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Christine L. Borgman, Professor and Presidential Chair in Information Studies at UCLA, is the author of more than 200 publications in information studies, computer science, and communication. 

Talk title: Why are data sharing and reuse so difficult to do?

Professor Borgman's new book, Big Data, Little Data, No Data: Scholarship in the Networked World, was published by MIT Press in early 2015. Prior books, Scholarship in the Digital Age: Information, Infrastructure, and the Internet (MIT Press, 2007) and From Gutenberg to the Global Information Infrastructure: Access to Information in a Networked World (MIT Press, 2000), each won the Best Information Science Book of the Year award from the Association for Information Science and Technology. Professor Borgman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, Co-chair of the CODATA-ICSTI Task Group on Data Citation and Attribution, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.
