The following forms of identification is accepted for the purpose of verifying discount cash fares for seniors (65 years old or older) and Certified Disabled Persons:

  • Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount Card
  • Medicare Card
  • DMV placard computer print-out
  • California Driver’s License
  • California ID card
  • DMV disabled license plate registration
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport (US or Foreign)
  • Alien Registration Card
  • Valid Senior/Disabled card from another California transit agency
  • Valid Monterey-Salinas transit courtesy card

Notes:

  • Monthly passes are valid for the calendar month purchased; they are not a 31-day pass
  • Monthly passes are available for purchase from the 16th of the previous month through the 15th of of the pass month.
    (i.e. a monthly pass for July is available for purchase from June 16th through July 15th)
  • Monthly passes purchased on or after the 16th of the month are valid for the following month only
  • Express Fares are for Express Bus Lines​
  • ​​Exact fare required, operators do not carry change​
  • ​Customers must have valid fare before boarding light rail

Fare Compliance

Failure to comply with VTA's fare policy is in violation of California Penal Code 640.  Violation of California Penal Code 640 is punishable up to the maximum penalty allowed by law.

If you have been cited for not having valid fare and need information on how to pay the fine, you can use the Santa Clara County Public Access Traffic Case Information Website. Information can be found by citation number or searching by name.

Construction Wrapping Up: Construction on the Mountain View Light Rail Double Track Project is almost complete.

November Bus Bridges: Light rail service will be replaced by substitute bus service for a portion of the system from Saturday, November 14 to Sunday, November 22.

Eastbound Bus Stops Relocating or Closing On Alum Rock Avenue: Bus stops located on Eastbound Alum Rock Avenue are being closed or relocated to allow for construction in the eastbound lanes between U.S. 101 and Jose Figueres Avenue.
