Do's and Don'ts

Do's and Don'ts

  • Purchase your fare before boarding light rail. Please have payment or fare ready when boarding buses.
  • Never interfere with the safe operation of a light rail vehicle or bus. Interfering with the operator or the boarding/deboarding of passengers in any way is prohibited.
  • Never ride bicycles, skateboards or rollerblades on VTA property.
  • It is unlawful to violate any sign or posted prohibition while on VTA property.
  • All passengers must deboard at final stops.
  • Please fold strollers prior to boarding.
  • Never extend your body from or ride on the outside of a light rail vehicle or bus.
  • Never throw an object from a light rail vehicle or bus.
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
  • Holding of meetings or ceremonies is prohibited

Failure to comply with any of the rules mentioned above while on VTA property is in violation of one or more of the following: California Penal Code 594, 640, or Public Utility Code (PUC) 99170. Violation of PUC 99170 is punishable up to the maximum amount allowed by law.

Construction Wrapping Up: Construction on the Mountain View Light Rail Double Track Project is almost complete.

November Bus Bridges: Light rail service will be replaced by substitute bus service for a portion of the system from Saturday, November 14 to Sunday, November 22.

Eastbound Bus Stops Relocating or Closing On Alum Rock Avenue: Bus stops located on Eastbound Alum Rock Avenue are being closed or relocated to allow for construction in the eastbound lanes between U.S. 101 and Jose Figueres Avenue.
