Mountain View Light Rail Double Track Project
Construction Update
October 30, 2015
Most construction is now complete for both Phase One and Phase Two of the project and the primary work activities have shifted to fine tuning and testing the signaling and overhead electrical systems.
Due to safety concerns, most testing work is done at night after light rail revenue service has ceased for the day.
There will continue to be limited daytime construction activities, however, particularly near the intersection of Whisman Station Drive and Central Expressway, the nearby light rail crossing of Central Expressway and at the site of the now-closed Evelyn Light Rail Station.
Motorists are likely to experience lane closures on Central Expressway during non-commute hours on weekdays during the next several weeks, as well as occasional lane closures on weekend days.
The work described above will continue through the second week of November, when activities will shift to track testing and training light rail operators.
Beginning Saturday, November 14 and continuing through Sunday, November 22, both the Mountain View and Whisman Stations will be closed with alternate bus bridge service offered in order to accommodate the track testing and operator training. This will tentatively be the last scheduled shutdown for the project.
