Mostly Day Work Scheduled Near Whisman Station
Overview:
The contractor’s current construction schedule shows crews will be working seven days a week through at least June 14 in the project area located along the VTA light rail corridor between Central Expressway and Whisman Station.
This period includes extended daytime work hours on weekends. The contractor projects only minimal nighttime work on weeknights, however.
During this time, activities will include installing ductbanks and conduits, excavating to subgrade the area where the new track will be built, working on the soundwall at Central Expressway and potholing for underground utilities.
The most noticeable activity will likely be the daytime loading of excess soil into trucks that then haul it offsite. This work will result in large trucks occasionally using Whisman Station Road.
The night work, scheduled for this week and next, is to precisely locate underground utilities by using a vacuum-like device that sucks up soil to expose the utilities.
Mountain View Double Track Project
The Mountain View Double Track project, one of a series of projects known as the VTA Light Rail Train Efficiency Program, includes installing a second set of light rail tracks between the Mountain View and Whisman stations. The work will require the closure of the underutilized Evelyn Light Rail Station. The purpose of this project is to eliminate the current bottle neck caused by the single track operation in this area of Mountain View and provide storage space to stage multiple vehicles to service future BART service and special events at Levi’s Stadium.
