Night Work Near Whisman to Continue

Construction Update
October 12, 2015

Crews will be working on upgrading and adding to the existing light rail overhead electrical system (OES) during nighttime hours for the next several weeks. This work is along the new light rail track between Central Expressway and the Whisman Light Rail Station. Additionally, crews will be undertaking similar work in the section of the project between the Mountain View Transit Center and the Central Expressway crossing.

Most of these project activities can only be performed when the existing electrical system has been de-energized, which means crews generally work during the period after the last light rail train of the evening has come through and before service begins again the next morning.

Daytime activities will also continue. Among those activities are repairing and replacing sidewalk and curbs where Whisman Station Drive crosses the light rail tracks.

Nighttime crews are generally onsite by 9 p.m., with work on the OES beginning sometime after 11 p.m. and wrapping up by 5 a.m. the next morning. This work is expected to continue through mid to late October. The next  shutdown of light rail between the Whisman and Mountain View light rail stations is slated for November 14-22, 2015.
