Find out who was awarded funding by the 2016 James Cary Smith Community Grant Program.
The Air District is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 James Cary Smith Community Grant Program Awards.
The Community Grant Program will expand efforts to reduce air pollution and enhance collaboration and direct community participation in the protection of our health and the environment.
This year, the Air District received 23 complete applications, with a total requested amount of $573,274. With the funding available, we were able to fund 11 outstanding projects for a total of $261,274.
Ten of the selected projects directly involve CARE communities that are highly impacted by air pollution, while one targets non-CARE communities adjacent to major freeways. All of the projects either partner with a community-based organization or with one of 18 local high schools.
The applications were highly competitive and the review process was difficult. Great need and merit were obvious to all who participated in the application review process. We remain open to finding other ways to work with the many excellent applicants who were not funded. The Air District also welcomes your input into making this program stronger going forward.
Congratulations to each recipient, and to all applicants our deepest appreciation for your on-going efforts to improve air quality in the Bay Area.
