Emergency Response Teams at SOM

Emergencies at the School of Medicine can significantly impact research laboratories, causing important scientific advances back week, months, even years. It is critical that all labs have an emergency plan. This page has several resources that will help you in creating an actionable laboratory response plan. If you have any questions or wish to volunteer, please contact the SoM Emergency Management Program at somemergency@stanford.edu or 650-721-6269.

During a Regional Emergency

Building Assesment Team (BAT)

Building Response Team (BRT)

BRTs are volunteers identified by departments and equipped and trained by the SoM Emergency Management Program.  BRTs help disseminate emergency preparedness and response instructions and assist during building evacuations.  Many are trained to provide medical aid and extinguish small fires.

Department Recovery Team (DRT)

DRTs are volunteers appointed by the department to assist in the development of emergency plans and implement procedures specific to their organization. DRTs document the effects of an emergency on the department’s personnel, facilities, equipment, data, and research. DRTs coordinate facility and program restoration with the School of Medicine Department Operations Center and track emergency related losses and costs including personnel hours. DRTs are managed and trained by the department in accordance to the Department Emergency Plan.
