Waiting List and Continuous Assignment Rounds

Undergraduate Assignment Rounds

Autumn Quarter

Upperclass students who need housing for Autumn Quarter should apply for housing during The Draw, which takes place annually in April and early May.

Students who are unassigned after The Draw and students who miss the Draw deadline can still apply for Autumn Quarter housing and participate in the second assignment round (Autumn Quarter waitlist round). To participate in the waitlist round, students must apply before the waitlist deadline in early July. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the waitlist deadline in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for Autumn Quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the waitlist round and students who missed the waitlist deadline can apply for the third assignment round (continuous assignments). The continuous assignments round continues through the fifth week of Autumn Quarter. If a student cannot be assigned by the end of the fifth week, that student will need to apply for housing beginning Winter Quarter.

Winter Quarter

The first assignment round for Winter Quarter is the Winter Quarter waitlist round. To participate in the waitlist round students must apply before the waitlist deadline in mid-October. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the waitlist deadline in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for Winter Quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the waitlist round and students who missed the waitlist deadline can apply for the third assignment round (continuous assignments). The continuous assignments round continues through the fifth week of Winter Quarter. If a student cannot be assigned by the end of the fifth week, that student will need to apply for housing beginning Spring Quarter.

Spring Quarter

The first assignment round for Spring Quarter is the Spring Quarter waitlist round. To participate in the waitlist round students must apply before the waitlist deadline in early February. Students with guarantee years remaining must apply by the waitlist deadline in order to be guaranteed a spot in housing for Winter Quarter.

Students who are unassigned after the waitlist round and students who missed the waitlist deadline can apply for the third assignment round (continuous assignments). Tiers and Application Numbers

Students who apply during the Draw, Winter Quarter Waitlist Round, and Spring Quarter Waitlist Round can pick a tier level on their application if they have a housing guarantee year remaining. The tier level dictates the range of numbers from which a student's random application number will be chosen. Applications are considered in application number order so the lower the application number, the sooner a student's application is considered. Tier 1 encompasses application numbers 1-1000, Tier 2 1001-2000, Tier 3 2001-3000. Students can only use Tier 1 once and must use Tier 3 at least once during their Stanford career. Rising sophomores are not eligible to use Tier 1.

Students who apply outside of The Draw, Winter Quarter Waitlist Round, and Spring Quarter Waitlist Round are assigned a sequential number over 3500 depending on when their application is received.
