I am delighted to announce Richenda Brim will be joining SUL as the Head of the Preservation Department.

Ms. Brim comes to us from the Getty Research Institute where she has served as Librarian for Research and Special Projects since June 2009. In this capacity she has planned major collection moves, renovated collection storage spaces, and managed the digitization of rare book collections. Previous to that she was Head of Collection Maintenance where she oversaw bindery services, shelf preparation and repair for core collection materials. In both positions she has worked on updating disaster plans and developing business continuity strategies for the GRI. This is not her first time in the San Francisco Bay Area as early in her career she worked at UCSF as a Circulation Assistant and then Senior Book Mender.

She received her BA in Art History from Loyola Marymount University and her MLIS from UCLA. She is professionally active in leadership positions in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries and American Printing History Association as well as being a former steering committee member and chair of the Los Angeles Preservation Network. She is an active printer, bookbinder, and a member of a ukulele orchestra.

Please join me in welcoming her when she begins on November 10, 2014.
